Writer KA Rees aims to develop a language of the nocturne, inspired by the collection, history and sky views from the Sydney Observatory.
Rees is an award-winning poet and author of short fiction. Her work has been published in Australian Poetry Journal, Australian Poetry Anthology, Cordite Poetry Review, Flash Cove, Kill Your Darlings’ New Australian Fiction 2021, Overland, Review of Australian Fiction, and Yalobusha Review, among others.
She has been awarded national and international prizes, including being the National Winner of the Joanne Burns Microlit Award (2019), Varuna fellowship holder for her manuscript of short fiction (2019), and recipient of the Barry Hannah Prize in Fiction (2017). Rees was a runner-up in the Peter Cowan Short Story Award (2018) and short-listed for the Judith Wright Poetry Award (2016).
