Catherine Sarah Young

Award-winning artist, designer and writer Catherine Sarah Young will delve into the Sydney Observatory’s archives to research how rain was measured and explore historical references to extreme weather. Understanding rainfall patterns and narratives is key to her work exploring climate change and the environmental future.

Young uses her background in molecular biology, fine art, and interaction design to create interdisciplinary and experimental artworks on the environment. The Chinese-Filipina artist, designer has studied in the Philippines, United States and Spain. She is currently a Scientia Scholar at UNSW in Sydney undertaking a PhD in Art and Design, an Obama Foundation Leader for Asia-Pacific, and part of TeamHB6 of Homeward Bound, a leadership program for women in STEMM set in Antarctica. Young has completed residencies and fellowships in The Netherlands, Finland, Russia, Taiwan, China, Germany, Austria, and in the Amazon Rainforest, Brazil.
