Winter School Holiday Program

2–17 July 2022

Winter School Holiday program offers a variety of educational experiences for children and young people ages 7–17 across Powerhouse Ultimo, Museums Discovery Centre and Parramatta TAFE Creative Studio this school holidays.

All workshops are interactive, creative and fun for the whole family.

Neon Galaxy in the Design Studio

2–17 July 2022, 1:30–2:30pm + 3–4pm

In this family-friendly workshop, make glow-in-the-dark art to transform our Design Studio into a Neon Galaxy, this school holidays at Powerhouse Ultimo.

Green Screen Galaxies in the Design Studio

2–17 July 2022, 10am – 12pm

A free, family-friendly, drop-in activity where participants can make space-themed craft creations and then turn them into the stars of their own video.

Minecraft Galaxy Workshop (Ages 7–9)

4, 6, 12 + 14 July 2022, 10am – 4pm

A fun day of learning new skills through playing and creating in a safe, private Minecraft world constructed by Powerhouse.  

Minecraft Galaxy Workshop (Ages 9–12)

Family Minecraft Galaxy Workshop (Ages 7+)

Learn, create and play as a family in a safe, private Minecraft world constructed by Powerhouse. 

Across the Galaxy Game Design (Ages 9–12)

5 + 11 July 2022, 10am – 4pm

In this workshop participants will be introduced to the basics of digital game design using Unity.

Space Defenders (Ages 9-12)

15 July 2022, 10am – 4pm

Workshop participants will learn the basics of coding in the C# language while working on Unity to program their own Space Defenders game.

Space Cars in the Design Studio

2, 3, 9, 10, 16 + 17 July 2022, 10am – 12 noon

Get crafty and use your imagination to design and decorate a space car for the future. A family-friendly, drop-in activity.

Space Craft and Stop Motion Animation (Ages 5+)

10 + 16 July 2022, 1–1.50pm + 2–2.50pm

In this family-friendly activity participants will be introduced to stop motion animation and make their own short film.

Shooting Star Storytelling with ScratchJr (Ages 5+)

16 July 2022, 10–10.50am, 11–11.50am

In this short family-friendly workshop participants will learn to code and create their own interactive stories using ScratchJr.

Star Animation with FlipaClip (Ages 5+)

17 July 2022, 1–1.50pm 2–2.50pm

A family-friendly activity where participants will get an introduction to stop motion animation and make their own short film.

Space Robots with Code-a-pillar and mBot (Ages 5+)

10 + 17 July 2022, 10–10.50am + 11–11.50am

In this short, family-friendly, workshop participants will be introduced to the basics of robotics coding using Code-a-pillar and mBot.

Creative Studio: Story Factory

04 – 06 July 2022 or 11 – 13 July 2022, 10am - 2pm

Inspired by the Powerhouse collection, students will create and develop digital publications of their writing, poetry and short stories.

Creative Studio: Powerhouse + Space

Presented by Powerhouse and TAFE NSW, Creative Studio: Powerhouse + Space is a series of free hands-on workshops combining science, arts and play for children aged 4–12 and their families.

Getting Around

On arrival you will be provided with a printed Map and Guide to assist you in finding your way through the museum during your visit.

We aim to provide venues, exhibitions, programs and services which can be enjoyed by all visitors, including those with disabilities and prams. You can access all the main levels of the Powerhouse museum via ramps and an elevator. For visitors using manual wheelchairs, the elevator is recommended.
