The Powerhouse Design Residency, established by Powerhouse and Create NSW, provides support for three early career designers and makers to undertake six months of professional development at the museum.

A call for applications will take place in February 2023 and NSW-based early career designers and makers will be encouraged to apply.

Each resident will receive $25,000 in financial support, as well as industry mentoring, access to studio space and workshop facilities at Powerhouse Ultimo, and access to the collection. The residency must take place within a defined six-month period, commencing July 2023.

This initiative builds on Powerhouse’s vital work in fostering the careers of emerging Australian designers. With a focus on multidisciplinary practice, the program nurtures young talent by providing an infrastructure to support nascent studio practice, reinforce skill sets under the guidance of industry experts, and expand on their knowledge base by providing access to experienced practitioners and thinkers.

Applications for the residency will be administered by Create NSW.
