Daily cosmobite: Jupiter anniversary

A high quality replica of Galileo’s telescope. Courtesy Powerhouse MuseumOn this day in 1610 the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei turned his very basic telescope towards the planet Jupiter. He saw three faint “stars” arranged in a straight line adjacent to the planet. Over the next few nights he realised that he was viewing not stars, but moons circling the giant planet.
