Powerhouse Parramatta

Competition Process

In January 2019, an open, global search was launched for architectural teams with exceptional skills in design and placemaking for Powerhouse Parramatta.

The open two-stage competition welcomed Australian and international design teams and strongly encouraged creative and intellectual collaborations between established and emerging talent.

The first stage of the competition attracted 74 submissions from 20 countries, made up of 529 individual firms from five continents. Six international-Australian and Australian teams were shortlisted.

During the second stage of the competition, the shortlisted teams attended a site visit and seminar in Parramatta which included a detailed overview of the Stage Two Brief (attachments here).

The competition was organised by Malcolm Reading Consultants for Create NSW. The competition was run in accordance with the procurement requirements of the NSW Government and was formally endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects.
