The Powerhouse Museum is calling on the community to have its voice heard in planning for the renewal of Powerhouse Ultimo.

On 4 July the NSW Government announced the expansion of the Powerhouse to four sites including the retention and reimagining of Powerhouse Ultimo.

Together with Create NSW the Powerhouse Museum is developing a final business case to determine the future of Ultimo as a world-class Museum.

Lisa Havilah, Powerhouse Chief Executive said: “We know the incredible passion the community has for Powerhouse Ultimo and as we reimagine the site for the future we absolutely must listen to the perspectives of the community through this process,” said Ms Havilah.

“The Museum’s renewal gives us the opportunity to ask the public what they want to see from a modern museum experience, how we might reimagine our remarkable Collection for decades to come, what role technology could play in the visitor experience, and how the Museum will remain a thriving institution within the Ultimo precinct.”

“Since opening in 1988 the Powerhouse Ultimo has inspired thousands of visitors and I am passionate about building a future for the Museum that engages with and reflects our constantly evolving community, both here at Ultimo and throughout NSW.”

“The community are our most important stakeholders and I am looking forward to having this discussion with them,” said Ms Havilah.

President of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Trust Professor Barney Glover AO, said: “Powerhouse Ultimo has a proud history of displaying our world-renowned Collection, and with the NSW Government’s recent decision this will continue to be the case for years to come,” said Professor Glover AO.

“The Trust holds the firm belief that public institutions have a responsibility to evolve to meet the ever-changing dynamic of the communities they represent.”

“I encourage the community to have their voices heard in this important process as the Government plans for the future of the Powerhouse Ultimo,” said Professor Glover AO.
