Rosie Deacon's Koala Train

Duration: All day
Event
Temporarily closed Museums Discovery Centre

Did you get a chance to see Koala Train at the Powerhouse Museum over the 2019 – 2020 summer school holidays? If you missed it then, or want to enjoy it again, you have another chance to see it on display at the Museums Discovery Centre in 2021.

This striking interactive sculpture is constructed from over 2,000 handmade multi-coloured pom-poms and stands over five metres tall.

It is the creation of contemporary artist Rosie Deacon who made it in response to bushfires over the summer of 2019 – 2020 that destroyed precious koala habitats along the east coast of Australia.

Visitors will be able to walk through the Koala Train and dance along to a Koalasize video that Rosie made in collaboration with videographer, Dara Gill. Inspired by aerobic dance videos from the 1980s, it will have visitors pumping, kicking, and strutting along to the beat.

To help plan your visit, please find information here about the measures we’ve put in place in response to COVID-19 to keep everyone safe.
